Reverse description A plain Latin cross with equal arms occupies the central field, characteristic of Crusader deniers of the Jerusalem tradition. The cross divides the field into four quarters, each plain. A circular beaded inner border frames the design, and the surrounding Latin legend reads + DΛMIЄTΛ, referencing the city of Damietta, captured by Crusader forces during the Fifth Crusade. The flan is irregular with surface patination consistent with billon coinage struck at an expeditionary mint.
