Obverse description Central field depicts a crowned shield or heraldic device surmounted by a crown with fleuron finials, characteristic of feudal French hammered coinage. A cross pattée is visible beneath the crowned device, dividing the lower field. The design is rendered in low relief with the irregular flan typical of hand-struck medieval billon deniers. The surrounding Latin legend, partially visible along the periphery, identifies the issuer as Joan, Duchess of Brittany. The overall style reflects the provincial feudal minting traditions of early 14th-century France.
