Obverse description A plain cross with a pellet in each of the four angles, struck in relief on an irregularly shaped flan. The cross divides the field into four quadrants, each containing a single dot, giving the design a simple yet bold appearance characteristic of Ottonian coinage. A circular legend surrounds the cross, rendered in crude late Carolingian letterforms. The overall style reflects the debased workshop practices common to late 11th-century Rhenish ecclesiastical mints.
