Obverse description Facing crowned bust of the emperor in schematic style, flanked to the left by a spear and to the right by a star, rendered in the flat, stylized tradition of Ottonian-Salian coinage. The effigy is depicted frontally with a prominent crown, the facial features summarily executed in keeping with the hammered die-cutting conventions of the period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central design within a beaded border.
