| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse features a stylized facing bust or mask, rendered in a highly schematic manner within a beaded inner circle, characteristic of the degenerate portraiture common to late Carolingian and early post-Carolingian coinage. The bust displays rudimentary facial features with pellet eyes, and is surrounded by radial lines suggesting drapery or a nimbus. The circular legend runs around the periphery in rustic Latin capitals, separated from the central design by a beaded border. A decorative cross or star precedes the legend as an initial mark. The overall style reflects the artistic conventions of the Liège episcopal mint in the early tenth century. |
