| Obverse description | Central plain cross with a pellet in each of the four angles, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads +ODDO+ IIIID, invoking the name of Emperor Otto, with characters arranged around the periphery in the characteristic style of Ottonian immobilized coinage. The die-cutting exhibits the bold, somewhat irregular execution typical of 11th-century German hammered silver. The field is flat and unadorned beyond the cross and pellet motif. |
