Additional information

The Allobroges occupied the territory between the Rhône and Isère rivers, broadly corresponding to modern Savoie and Dauphiné. They were among the few Gaulish peoples to side with Rome during the Catilinarian conspiracy of 63 BC, providing Cicero with the intercepted letters that sealed the conspirators' fate — a political calculation that bought them little long-term goodwill. Roman annexation of their territory had already begun following the campaigns of 121 BC, meaning this coinage circulated under increasingly direct Roman administrative pressure.

The rowel variant is specifically identified in Delestrée-Tache as DT 3052, distinguishing it from closely related Allobrogian issues by that single punched detail on the die.
