Reverse description A bold pattée cross with flared arms occupies the centre of the field, a standard type for feudal deniers of this period. The cross extends nearly to the inner beaded circle that separates the central design from the surrounding legend. A small ornamental crosslet appears at the top of the legend, which reads REDONNIS CIVITAS, identifying the mint city of Rennes. The overall style is consistent with mid-eleventh-century Breton hammered coinage.
