The surrounding field bears the royal legend +OTTO PIVS REX, distributed around the outer zone in bold Carolingian capitals. Small crosses or annulets punctuate the legend at intervals. The entire design is contained within an outer beaded rim. The style and layout conform closely to the Ottonian denier coinage associated with King Otto I, struck at Breisach. |
