Obverse description A plain cross pattée occupies the center of the field, with a pellet positioned at the center crossing point. Small pellets and wedge-shaped ornaments are disposed in the angles between the arms of the cross. The surrounding legend, reading TRECAS CIVIT (Troyes, city), is rendered in degenerate Carolingian lettering and enclosed within a beaded inner circle, characteristic of late tenth-century feudal minting practice at the Troyes mint.
