Obverse description A bold cross divides the field into four quarters, with the legend HEINR DVX distributed across the arms. Each quarter contains a downward-pointing wedge or triangle flanked by three pellets arranged in triangular formation, a decorative motif characteristic of early medieval Bavarian coinage. The cross arms are broad and flat, rendered in a sturdy Ottonian style typical of early 11th-century hammered silver. The overall composition is somewhat irregular owing to the hand-struck flan, with letters showing archaic Romanesque letterforms.
