| Reverse description | A plain cross divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each containing a single prominent pellet, the whole enclosed within a beaded inner circle. This simple cruciform design is characteristic of Ottonian and Salian imperial pfennigs struck at the Dortmund mint. The cross arms extend to the inner circle, and the overall composition is bold and well-centred relative to the irregular flan. The surrounding legend, running along the outer border, reads +THRTMANONIE, a contracted form of the mint name Dortmund. |
