| Obverse description | The field displays a three-line inscription arranged horizontally, with the text divided into four quadrants separated by groups of pearls at the quarters. The entire central design is framed by an inner beaded border, a circumferential legend, and an outer beaded border. The lettering is rendered in a characteristic Ottonian-Salian Romanesque style typical of mid-eleventh-century Italian imperial coinage. The composition is purely epigraphic, with no figurative imagery, reflecting the aniconic tradition of the Pavian imperial deniers of Henry III. |
