| Obverse description | Crowned facing bust of Emperor Henry II in high relief at center, depicted in a stylized, archaic manner typical of Ottonian-Salian coinage. The effigy shows the ruler wearing a crown with pendilia, rendered with summary die-cutting characteristic of early 11th-century German hammered deniers. A Latin legend surrounds the bust within the coin's irregular flan, reading HENRICVS in partial or abbreviated form. The fields show the rough, textured surface common to struck silver pfennigs of the period. |
