Reverse description A large voided cross pattée occupies the central field, dividing the coin into four quadrants, each containing a pellet or small annulet ornament. The cross is boldly struck with splayed, slightly curved arms, typical of the architectural cross type found on Brabantine deniers of the mid-13th century. A beaded inner border encircles the design, with a fragmentary Latin legend running along the outer edge of the irregular flan. The die work is characteristically flat and schematic, consistent with hammered coinage of the Duchy of Brabant under Henry II or Henry III.
