| 表面の説明 | Facing crowned bust of Emperor Henry II in high relief, rendered in the crude but expressive Ottonian-Salian hammered style. The imperial crown is prominently depicted above the frontal effigy, with stylized facial features including large eyes and a simplified nose and mouth. The bust is presented frontally within the coin field, surrounded by a circular Latin legend. The flan is irregular in shape, as is characteristic of early medieval hand-struck coinage. |

Henry II's Dinant coinage belongs to a period when Ottonian imperial authority over the Meuse valley bishoprics was being actively consolidated. Dinant fell under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Liège, and the right to strike coin there reflected the complex web of episcopal and imperial prerogatives that defined monetary administration in the low countries during this reign. Henry II — the last of the Ottonian dynasty, canonized in 1146 — ruled the empire until his death in 1024 without a direct heir, precipitating the Salian succession.
The Kluge and Dannenberg references place this firmly within the documented episcopal-imperial coinage of the Meuse region, a series noted for considerable die variation across individual mint sites.
