Henry I of Molenark served as Archbishop of Cologne from 1225 until his death in 1238, a tenure defined largely by his fraught relationship with the city's increasingly assertive merchant class. Cologne's burghers were pressing hard for communal autonomy throughout this period, and episcopal coinage carried real political weight — control of the mint was inseparable from jurisdictional authority over the city's booming Rhine trade.
Hävernick 647 is not among the more commonly encountered types from this archiepiscopal series.
