Denier - Henry I Bust facing, church

Henry I of Brabant spent much of his reign navigating the fractious politics of the Lower Lorraine succession, and his coinage reflects a duchy still asserting itself as a coherent territorial power distinct from its neighbors. The church-type denier belongs to a transitional moment when Brabantine minting was consolidating around Leuven and Brussels, though attribution of individual dies to specific mints within the duchy remains contested among specialists.

Witte 28 is not a common attribution — surviving examples turn up infrequently in Belgian hoards, and the type is underrepresented in major collections relative to Henry's other denier issues.
