| Beschrijving keerzijde | A stylised church or chapel facade occupies the central field, depicted as a triangular gabled structure with a horizontal bar at the base, evoking an architectural representation of a cathedral or episcopal church — a motif common on Ottonian ecclesiastical deniers. A cross appears above the gable. The surrounding legend, inscribed in crude Carolingian majuscules along the periphery, references Saint Willibald, the founding bishop and patron saint of Eichstätt, with the partial inscription EIHT SCS WILLIBALDV, the mint name abbreviated within the architectural device. The design is characteristic of the rough, irregular style of German episcopal hammered coinage of the late tenth century. |
