Obverse description Central pattee cross occupying the majority of the field, with pellets or wedge-shaped ornaments filling the angles between the arms. The cross is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, outside of which runs the royal legend in Latin. The lettering is characteristic of 11th-century Capetian coinage, with an archaic and somewhat irregular hand. The overall style reflects the early feudal hammered coinage tradition of the Capetian monarchy.
