| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a cross pattée with a pellet in each angle, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A small ornamental motif, possibly a trefoil or fleur, surmounts the top of the cross. The surrounding legend reads HEIMRICVS DVX, identifying the issuer as Duke Henry I of Bavaria, rendered in rustic Latin capitals characteristic of tenth-century Ottonian coinage. The overall design is typical of the Carolingian-derived denier tradition as practiced at the Regensburg mint. |
