Obverse description A plain cross divides the central field into four quarters, each canton bearing a pellet or bezant, the lower two quarters clearly visible and the upper two partially obscured; the whole enclosed within a plain inner circle. A circular legend in Latin characters runs along the outer periphery, separated from the central motif by a beaded border. The overall style is characteristic of Ottonian-era hammered coinage, with a somewhat irregular flan and bold, deeply struck relief.
