| Reverse description | Central field displays a cross with small annulets or pellets placed in each of the four angles, all contained within a beaded or plain inner circle. The retrograde Latin legend surrounding the inner circle reads ABIS VCLILA, a garbled or abbreviated form identifying the mint of Abbeville. A cross pommée introduces the legend. The flan is irregular and slightly broader than the die, consistent with hammered silver production of the period. The style reflects the feudal monetary conventions of the County of Ponthieu in the late 11th century. |
