Reverse description A sword depicted vertically in the central field, serving as the primary reverse device, flanked by the ducal legend in Latin. The inscription GOZELO DVX L identifies the issuer as Gozellon (Gothelo), Duke of Lorraine, arranged around the sword motif. The lettering is executed in a crude, angular hand consistent with 11th-century hammered coinage of the Lower Rhine region. The flan is irregular and the relief uneven, with portions of the legend weakly struck or partially off-flan.
