Godfrey III ruled Leuven during a period of sustained conflict with the Bishopric of Liège, and his coinage reflects a lordship asserting itself through silver despite perpetual territorial pressure from ecclesiastical neighbors. The county's mint output in this period was modest by any measure, and surviving examples in collectible condition are genuinely scarce rather than artificially so.
