Godfrey II of Lower Lotharingia held his duchy under perpetually contested circumstances — his relationship with Henry II was fractious enough that the emperor stripped him of the duchy in 1012, only to restore it by 1014. The joint naming on this denier almost certainly dates from after that reconciliation, a political gesture rendered in silver at a mint whose output during this decade was deliberately modest.
Ilisch's classification of this type places it within a tightly defined group; the Nl2 series is not prolific, and confirmed examples remain few.
