Géza I ruled for less than three years, taking the Hungarian throne after defeating his cousin Salomon at the Battle of Mogyoród in 1074 — a conflict fought with Cuman mercenary support that effectively split the kingdom between two rival claimants for much of the decade. Salomon retained control of several border fortresses with backing from the Holy Roman Empire, meaning Géza's authority was never fully undisputed during the entire period this coin could have been struck.
The short reign compresses the likely production window considerably, and survivors are correspondingly scarce.
