Obverse description Central field depicts a stylized bust or effigy in low relief, enclosed within a plain inner circle, characteristic of early medieval Iberian hammered coinage. The surrounding legend reads GARCIA REX, identifying the issuer as Garcia IV, King of Navarre, rendered in crude Roman capitals distributed around the periphery. The flan is irregular and slightly broader than the die, with the lettering partially off-flan on some specimens. The overall style reflects the rudimentary die-cutting technique common to 12th-century Navarrese monetary production. Surface shows natural dark patina consistent with age and circulation.
