| Obverse description | Facing bust of Emperor Frederick II depicted in a highly stylized, archaic manner, wearing an imperial crown adorned with fleur-de-lis-like projections. The emperor is shown in bust form with schematic facial features including a pronounced eye and simplified drapery at the shoulders. Small ornamental devices, possibly a cross or floral motif, flank the bust to the right within the irregular flan. The overall design is executed in the characteristic flat, linear style of early 13th-century German bracteate and pfennig coinage.
