Eger — modern Cheb in the Czech Republic — was a favorite imperial residence of Frederick II, who spent considerable time there before his departure for Italy and the prolonged conflicts with the papacy that consumed his later reign. The mint's activity under his successors reflects the fragmentation of imperial authority in the German territories during the Interregnum of 1254–1273, when no effective central power governed minting policy and regional lords increasingly struck in their own interests.
Hašková's attribution to this specific Eger series rests largely on die linkage and find-spot evidence from Bohemian hoards.
