Obverse description Within an inner beaded circle, a crozier oriented vertically occupies the central field, flanked to the left by the Greek letter alpha and to the right by omega, referencing the divine title of Christ as beginning and end. The design is rendered in the bold, somewhat crude relief characteristic of 11th-century French ecclesiastical hammered coinage. The surrounding legend, interrupted by a cross pattée at the start, names Abbot Evrard in uncial characters.
