Obverse description Three-line Latin inscription filling the field, reading SPA / LATI / NVS, referencing the city of Spalatum (Split). The lettering is rendered in bold relief in a characteristic Romanesque style. The coin is enclosed within a plain inner border surmounted by a toothed or beaded outer rim. The overall fabric is irregular, consistent with hand-hammered medieval coinage of the Dalmatian coastal mints.
