Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a stylized leopard passant to the left occupies the central field, rendered in the crude, bold manner typical of Aquitainian hammered billon coinage. A small cross is placed above the leopard and another below, serving as field ornaments. The surrounding legend, struck in uncial Latin characters, reads EDWARDVS REX, identifying the issuer as King Edward. The coin exhibits irregular flan edges and uneven strike pressure characteristic of medieval hand-hammered production.
