| Beschrijving keerzijde | A prominent cross pattée occupies the center of the reverse, its arms extending toward the beaded inner circle, with a small pellet or orb at the center intersection. Flanking the cross are decorative foliate or palm branch motifs, evoking the imagery of Saint Peter's See in Rome. A curved arch or semicircular element appears in the lower field, beneath which the inscription SCDA ROMA is arranged, referencing Trier's historical claim as the 'Second Rome.' The legend S PERVS SCDA ROMA runs around the field, invoking Saint Peter and asserting Trier's ecclesiastical primacy. The overall design is typical of Ottonian-Salian archiepiscopal deniers struck at the Trier mint. |
