Denier - Conrad II Huy mint, Saint Domitian

Conrad II acquired the bishopric of Liège — and with it the mint at Huy on the Meuse — through his ongoing consolidation of ecclesiastical appointments across the empire. Huy was a commercially active river town, and its deniers circulated extensively through the lower Rhine and Meuse trading networks. The invocation of Saint Domitian, a fifth-century bishop of Tongeren-Maastricht credited with Christianizing the Meuse valley, reflects the Liège church's deliberate promotion of its own foundational saints as legitimizing currency imagery.

Kluge's Kar#95 places this type firmly within Conrad's imperial coinage but acknowledges the attribution difficulties caused by inconsistent die cutting across the Huy workshop.
