| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the monogram letters IVS arranged within a small beaded inner circle, surrounded by radially arranged decorative strokes reminiscent of a stylized floral or foliate pattern. The outer legend reads ✠ CONANVS, referencing Duke Conan III of Brittany, separated from the central motif by a beaded circle. The overall design is characteristic of early 12th-century Breton feudal coinage, with an irregular flan and bold, deeply struck lettering typical of hammered billon deniers. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Conan III ruled Brittany through a period of persistent friction with the Angevin counts and the English crown — his father Alain IV had abdicated under pressure, and Conan spent much of his reign defending ducal authority against both external encroachment and internal baronial resistance. These deniers were struck at a weight standard already in decline, the silver content of Breton billon coinage having eroded steadily since the late eleventh century as the duchy's mints struggled to maintain consistency without centralized monetary control.
The Jezézéquel references 22–24 distinguish at least three die varieties within this type.
