| Obverse description | Crowned facing bust of King Charles Robert (Károly Róbert) of the Angevin dynasty occupies the central field, depicted in a frontal, hieratic posture wearing a jewelled crown. Two heraldic lilies or sceptre-like floral ornaments flank the royal figure on either side, rendered in the bold, simplified style characteristic of 14th-century Hungarian hammered coinage. The design is executed in high relief with crude but expressive die work typical of the Angevin period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading REGIS · KAROLI (King Károly), with pellet or rosette stops between words. |
