Obverse description Central field depicts a stylized tower or castle flanked by smaller architectural elements, with a patriarchal double cross to the left and a mintmaster's mark to the right. A small pellet or annulet appears in the central field between the devices. The peripheral legend reads + KAROLVS REX in Gothic Latin lettering, interrupted by a small cross pattée at the top. The overall design is characteristic of the Angevin-period Hungarian denier, struck in a rough, irregular flan typical of hammered medieval coinage.
