Reverse description Central device consists of a plain cross with slightly expanded terminals, occupying the full field of the coin. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads SIT NOMEN DNI BEN followed by the date 1573, a pious inscription invoking the blessing of the Lord's name. The flan edges are irregular and clipped, consistent with hand-struck hammered coinage of sixteenth-century France. A beaded inner border frames the legend.
