| Opis awersu | Central field bears the interlaced Carolingian royal monogram of Charles (KAROLUS), composed of four intertwined letters rendered in relief, enclosed within a plain beaded inner circle. The monogram is executed in the characteristic Carolingian style, with boldly modelled interlacing strokes. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, reading clockwise from a cross pattée at the left, separated from the monogram by the beaded border. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, as is typical of ninth-century hammered Frankish deniers. |

| Opis rewersu | Central field displays a plain short cross with equal arms in high relief, centred within a beaded inner circle. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the beaded border, dividing the inner field into four plain quadrants. The surrounding legend, beginning with a cross pattée, identifies the mint as Ghent (GANDAVVM) and runs clockwise between the beaded inner circle and the coin's irregular outer edge. The workmanship is consistent with Carolingian provincial minting practice of the third quarter of the ninth century. |
