| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features a plain cross with arms extending nearly to an inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four quarters; a pellet is visible in one of the quarters. The inner beaded circle is enclosed within a plain linear border. The outer legend, reading IN VICO DINANT and introduced by a cross, identifies the Dinant mint, the term VICUS denoting a trading settlement or market town. The lettering is boldly struck in the Carolingian epigraphic style, though some letter forms show the irregularity typical of provincial mint production. The overall design follows the standard Temple or Cross type introduced under the monetary reforms of Charles the Bald. |
