Reverse description A plain cross occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The arms of the cross extend to the inner beaded border, dividing the central area into four quadrants. A circular Latin legend naming the Roye mint reads around the outside of the beaded circle, characteristic of Carolingian palace-mint issues. The hammered fabric is irregular, and the legends show the orthographic variations typical of this issue across multiple die varieties.
