| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features a plain, bold Latin cross with arms of equal length extending nearly to the beaded inner circle, occupying the center of the coin in a clear and unadorned style. The cross is contained within a beaded circle, beyond which a circular Latin legend names the mint city of Noyon. The surrounding legend is separated from the outer edge of the flan by the characteristic irregular rim of a hammered piece. The lettering is bold and slightly uneven, consistent with ninth-century Frankish die-cutting practices. The overall composition follows the standard Carolingian denier reverse type as reformed under the Edict of Pîtres (864). |
