Reverse description The central field bears the Carolingian royal monogram of Charles II, composed of interlaced letters forming the name KARLVS, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is executed in the raised relief typical of hammered Carolingian deniers, with a prominent vertical shaft surmounted by an arched element and flanked by lateral strokes. A circular Latin legend reading NEVERNIS CVITΛI (City of Nevers) surrounds the inner beaded circle, preceded by a cross pattée stop, and runs to the irregular outer rim of the flan.
