Reverse description Central field displays a plain Latin cross with a slightly elongated vertical shaft, set within a beaded inner circle that separates it from the circumferential legend. The four quadrants formed by the cross arms are open and unadorned. The outer legend, reading MΛVRIIIVΛHEVΛI — a retrograde or corrupted rendering of 'Morienval' — encircles the inner design between the beaded ring and an outer plain border, introduced by a cross pommée. The irregular flan and variable letter spacing are consistent with monastic mint production of the Carolingian period.
