Reverse description Central field displays a plain Latin cross with arms extending to the beaded inner circle, the cross rendered in bold raised relief characteristic of Carolingian hammered coinage. The cross divides the inner field into four quarters, each plain. A beaded circle frames the cross motif, beyond which a Latin legend encircles the coin, identifying the mint of Maubeuge (Malbodium). The legend is introduced by a cross pattée and runs clockwise around the outer field.
