The surrounding circular legend reads TRIIECTO MON, identifying this piece as a product of the mint of Maastricht (Trajectum). The lettering is bold and characteristic of Carolingian epigraphy, set against a flat, hammered field typical of 9th-century West Frankish silver deniers. |
