The monogram is rendered in the angular, interlaced style characteristic of the Edict of Pîtres coinage reform of 864. The field between the inner circle and the outer beaded border is populated by the circumferential legend, with the entire design reflecting the Carolingian royal authority as reformulated under Charles II the Bald. |
