| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the Carolingian royal monogram of Charles II, composed of interlaced letters within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is rendered in relief in the characteristic hammered style of ninth-century Frankish coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the beaded border, reading clockwise from a cross pattée. The overall design follows the standard Carolingian denier type established under the Reform coinage tradition. |
