The arms of the cross extend nearly to the beaded border, dividing the inner field into four quadrants. The surrounding legend, introduced by a cross pattée, identifies the mint of Château-Porcien and runs in a circular arrangement between the beaded inner circle and the coin's irregular outer edge. The overall style is consistent with Carolingian ecclesiastical coinage of the third quarter of the ninth century. |
